How Dumpster Fees Work

Dumpster fees are charges that may apply in addition to your original base rate quote. While there are a few types of fees that can occur, our goal is to keep your final invoice transparent and predictable. Take a moment to learn about each fee so you know exactly what to expect.

Dry Runs

A dry run happens when our driver arrives to deliver or pick up your dumpster but can’t complete the service due to site conditions. Since we send a truck and driver, these situations may result in an additional charge.

Common Reasons

  • Cars, equipment, gates, or debris block access.
  • The dumpster is filled above the top edge.
  • The site is unsafe, soft, steep, or not ready.
  • The load is too heavy for safe removal.
  • Relocation is requested after delivery
  • A required permit isn't in place

How to prevent it

  • Allow roughly 80 feet of length clearance
  • Keep about 12 feet of width and 21 feet overhead clear.
  • Unlock gates and move vehicles before service.
  • Keep every item below the dumpster rim.
Helpful tip: Mark the placement area with cones or plywood and provide clear delivery instructions.

Day Allowance

Need a little more time? If your cleanup runs longer than expected, you can often extend your dumpster rental for a simple daily rate. The exact cost depends on your location and the size of your container at the time of your order.

Weight Allowance

Your dumpster rental includes a set weight limit, which covers the amount of debris you can dispose of without extra charges. After pickup, your dumpster is taken to a state-regulated landfill for disposal. The truck is weighed once on the way in while loaded and again on the way out when empty. The difference between those two weights determines the actual debris weight in your dumpster.

Because disposal costs are based on weight, any amount above your included weight limit may result in an additional overage charge. Overage charges are calculated using the excess weight recorded on the landfill’s official weight ticket.

We don’t charge for overages upfront—you only pay if your dumpster actually exceeds the included weight limit. Any overage charges typically appear on your invoice within 30 days of your final pickup, though in some cases it may take up to 120 days depending on when we receive the official weight ticket from the landfill.

Why weight adds up

  • A container may fit the volume but exceed safe weight.

Prohibited Items

Disposal rules and regulations vary by location. You can get a disposal fee for three different reasons:
• Disposing of something that’s hard for the landfill to process.
• Tossing prohibited items.
• Putting hazardous waste in a dumpster.

Service How to reduce the risk or prepare
You or an affiliate cancels the order. Cancellations must be requested Monday–Friday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST. Cancel more than 24 hours before delivery when possible.

More than 24 hours: $100 minimum
Within 24 hours: $200 or more
Driver en route or onsite: The full order fee may apply, and cancellation may not be accepted.
The driver must wait because the site or access is not ready. Clear the area and provide working access before arrival.
The dumpster sinks into soft ground and needs extra equipment. Choose a firm, paved, or reinforced placement surface.
Frozen debris requires special labor or equipment. Cover the dumpster and prevent wet debris from freezing.
The dumpster must be moved after the original delivery. Confirm the final placement spot before delivery.
Your dumpster fills sooner than expected and needs to be replaced with an empty container. Contact us when the dumpster is nearly full so the swap can be scheduled without delaying your project.
A large remodel, construction project, or commercial job requires more than one dumpster at the same time. Reserve multiple dumpsters early because availability may vary by location and delivery date.
Street, sidewalk, driveway, jobsite, or other regulated placement requires local approval. Check city or county permit requirements before scheduling delivery, or contact our team for guidance.
